United States where she became a well-respected host on Univision. In 2000, she began acting in movies and was soon
a household name for her Emmy-nominated role in the sitcom Modern

Career & Early Life

Vergara was the daughter of a large Colombian family. She was born in
Barranquilla on July 10, 1972. After learning English in a bilingual
elementary school, she went on to study dentistry. Vergara was discovered
on a beach by an amateur photographer. She began her career as a model and then
starred in a Mexican Telenovela.
After
moving to the United States in the mid-1990s, Vergara became a Univision
television star. She hosted the travel show Fuera de Serie as well as the
variety show A Que No Te Atreves. Her appearance at the 1995 American
Comedy Awards caught the attention of English-language viewers.
After her 2002 debut in Big Trouble alongside Rene Russo and
Tim Allen, Vergara was recognized as a leading film actress. Next
was Chasing Papi, where Vergara portrays one of Thomas Fuentes’
three girlfriends. She had already starred in two Tyler Perry films --
Meet the Browns (2008), and Madea Goes to Jail(2009) -- by the end of the
decade. In Chicago, Mama Morton was her Broadway debut.
"Modern Family"
Vergara also began her role on Modern Family in 2009 as
Gloria Delgado–Pritchett (played here by Ed O'Neill). __S.20__ Vergara
received four consecutive Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination in the
supporting actress category. She also won a People's Choice Award for 2017 for
her favorite comedic actress. Modern Family was officially
signed off in April 2020. Vergara starred in The Smurfs in 2011 and played
the role of Carmen on Happy Feet Two, a sequel to the animated film from
2006. To complete the year, she was part of the New Years Eve ensemble
cast. The film Machete Kills (2013) was followed by the action-flick
Machete Kills (2013), as well as the art-house films Fading Gigolo (2013)
(directed by Jon Favreau) and Chef (2014).
Vergara teamed up with Reese Witherspoon in 2015's buddy
comedy Hot Pursuit. She also appeared in The Female Brain in 2015 and was a
voice in the animated The Emoji Movie 2017. She starred in the 2018 crime
thriller Bent and the 2019 baseball drama Bottom of the 9th.
Fashion & Businesses
Vergara, who co-founded Latin World Entertainment in 1994,
was a pioneer in financial success.
In 2011, the actress launched her own Kmart clothing brand
and three years later, a fragrance line and jewelry collection. She teamed
up with Walmart in 2019 to launch a denim brand.
Personal Life
An endocrinologist found a lump in Vergara’s neck in 2000
and diagnosed her with thyroid cancer. She has undergone surgery and
radiation therapy, and is on medication to regulate her
metabolism. Vergara created a foundation in Colombia to support families
coping with cancer.
Vergara married Joe Gonzalez, her childhood sweetheart, and
they had a son, Manolo. Manolo was born in 1992. They divorced in
1993. Vergara got engaged to Nick Loeb in July 2012. Loeb is a New Yorker
who co-owns a film production company. The couple split in May 2014.
Vergara was caught in the middle of a legal dispute with
Loeb in 2015. Loeb sued Vergara over the control of frozen embryos that
were created by them as a couple. She denied that he claimed she was going
to kill them. Her attorney stated that Vergara was content to keep the
embryos frozen indefinitely, according to People magazine.
Vergara started dating Joe Manganiello, a True Blood and
Magic Mike hunk, after the breakup. Vergara and Manganiello were engaged
in December 2014. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that same
month, Vergara and Manganiello revealed that she had received American
citizenship.
