Lorraine Bracco Biography
Lorraine Bracco, a New Yorker with a deep voice, started her career in France as a model. Her next step was to become an actress in films and television. After appearing alongside her husband Harvey Keitel in the Italian crime-drama "Camorra" (1986), Bracco made her U.S. feature debut in Ridley Scott's modern-day noir "Someone to Watch Over Me" (1987). She was a memorable, supporting actor in Martin Scorsese's mob-themed drama "Goodfellas" (1990), in which she starred alongside Ray Liotta. She went on to star alongside Sean Connery in the jungle-adventure, "Medicine Man" (1992), followed by her turn as Elijah Wood's mom in the fantasy-drama "Radio Flyer" (1992). Bracco played the role of the devastated mother of troubled teenager Tom Carroll (Leonardo DiCaprio), before she took on the role of Dr. Jennifer Melfi, a psychiatrist, in "The Sopranos", the groundbreaking crime-drama (HBO 1999-2007). Following her highly acclaimed stint on the cult show, she was offered another regular role in the police procedural "Rizzoli and Isles" (TNT in the years 2010-16) as the mother of Detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon). In role after role , as an intelligent, complex woman, Bracco continued to play against convention and demonstrated an ability that was initially smacked by her beauty and defiantly undisguised Brooklyn accent.
