Rosamund Pike
In 1979, in
London, England, actress Rosamund Mary Elizabeth Pike is the sole child of a
classically trained violinist mother, Caroline (Friend), and a opera father of
a singer, Julian Pike. She spent her early years traveling throughout Europe
due to the work of her parents. Pike was born in Bristol and attended Badminton
School. She then started acting at National Youth Theatre. When she was in a
National Youth Theatre production of "Romeo and Juliet", she was
first spotted and contracted by an agent. However, she continued her studies in
Wadham College, Oxford, where she took classes in English Literature,
eventually graduating with an upper second grade honors degree.Pike played in a
range of UK TV shows which included Wives and Daughters (1999), before scoring
an auspicious debut in a feature film as the glacial beauty "Miranda
Frost" in the James Bond film, Die Another Day (2002); at the time the
film premiered at the age of 23, she was just 23. Her first film was a large-budget
action movie. But, her subsequent films were mostly independent films, such as
Promised Land (2004) and The Libertine (2004). For which she was awarded the
award for Best Supporting Actress prize in The British Independent Film Awards.
Pride & Prejudice (2005) featured Pike as one of the Bennet girls.
After a brief period in Hollywood, Doom (2005) and Fracture (2006), she
returned to film with exceptional performances in three of the smaller films.
She also appeared in Johnny English Reborn (2011) and the sci-fi drama Wrath of
the Titans (2012). Pike returned to action movies featuring a female lead with
Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher (2012).
