Rochon has the father of Zelma Staples and Samuel Staples. She was born in Torrance, Los Angeles, to Zelma Staples and Samuel Staples. Cerritos Senior High School, in Cerritos California, is the place where she graduated in 1982. In 1986 she earned her degree in 1986 from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) in which she obtained a bachelor's in broadcast journalism. Her degree also included minors in theatre and sociology. Rochon was the featured speaker for CSUDH's College of Arts and Humanities ceremony at the beginning of 2016.

Ullerup played Julia Brynn in the 2006 remake of Battlestar Galactica, which was shown through the Sci Fi Channel. The actress played Ashley Magnus on the Sanctuary television series in its first and second seasons, until the show was cancelled. Her departure remained a topic that caused heated discussion among the supporters, with many people wanting her to the show in subsequent episodes until the show was canceled in 2012. Ullerup was later cast in the role of Bree O'Brien for Chesapeake Shores. Ullerup portrayed Maggie Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact, the movie which was about the catastrophe of 2015. Ullerup, who has a part in the film as Dale Travers, is one of the characters that have appeared in Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered and movies from 2016.
