Morgan was born July 2, 1989 , to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. Morgan was raised by her parents in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was a fan of many games as a child but she began playing soccer when she was 14. Following high school, Morgan joined the Cypress Elite club team. They took home the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and came in third place in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued her training at Diamond Bar High School, where she worked on her soccer skills. National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) picked Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She was also a member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan completed her soccer journey at UC Berkeley, where she was the captain of the California Golden Bears team in scoring from the very beginning of the season. Morgan was instrumental in getting the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice making it to the second round. Morgan was one of four finalist for the Honda Sports Award. She was also the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Following her graduation at the beginning of 2010, Morgan was ranked third in all-time goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan was able to manage soccer careers at both the national and college levels throughout her education. When she first joined the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that kept her from playing with the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April 2008. Morgan scored her first international goal in Mexico at the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also a part-time player in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals, earning her team a gold medal. One of these goals was a victory over Italy that secured the U.S. team the final place at the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player of the team and was instrumental in helping to win the game against France. Even though the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first person in history to score goals and assists during a final World Cup game.
